Facebook brought with it a lot of promise for engaging with customers in a way that marketers have never been acquainted with. We have learnt a lot since its inception in 2004 … and we are still learning. While this list is by no means exhaustive, it provides some tips that you can use for your digital marketing and social media campaigns and see great results in a relatively short period of time.


1.  Give people a reason to become your fan on Facebook

As much as you want to believe it, people are not going to simply ‘Like’ your page because they think you’re super awesome. Most will only do it because you give them a reason to. And one of the ways of doing this is by giving them something in return. Whether it’s a coupon, a pdf or some special report, you can increase fan conversion rates by making your prospects some kind of an offer.

2. Stay on topic

Your posts should be consistent and related to your industry and brand as this is what will keep your fans engaged. People who like your page have a certain expectation of the kind of content that they will be receiving. If you disappoint them, they might ’Unlike’ your page.

3. Include Pictures in your Facebook updates

Pictures have been known to significantly increase engagement on Facebook. Incorporating an image on every post helps catch attention and also impacts your edge rank ensuring that your posts show up in the news feeds of your fans.

4. Run a Facebook Contest

Everyone loves a great contest. Why? Because more often than not, there is something to win. While this can help boost your fan conversion rates, this is also a great way to generate buzz and create excitement on your Facebook page.

Running a contest can revive a dull Facebook page and enhance engagement with your fans.

5. Measure, Monitor, Optimise

The only way you can continually have successful Facebook marketing, is to consistently monitor the results of all your efforts and optimise and make changes where necessary. Make good use of Facebook Insights to understand things like virality, engagement, reach as well as the demographics of your audience.

Without this, you will only have short-term success with Facebook marketing.

As Facebook continues to evolve, it is imperative that as marketers we keep our finger on the pulse and be on the look out for new opportunities for marketing our brand & products.
